Officially called the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway has made commutes from Mumbai to Pune and vice versa shorter by approximately 5 hours compared to older routes. It is a 6-lane expressway that has strategically replaced National Highway 4. The total Mumbai-Pune expressway distance is 94.5km connecting Raigad – Navi Mumbai – Mumbai with Pune. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) maintains the widely used bypass roads.
Mumbai Pune Bypass Road became fully operational in 2002. It starts from Kalamboli in Raigad district and ends at Kiwale in Pune.

At present, the toll collection on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is managed at 5 toll plazas. The two main toll plazas in this expressway are located at Khalapur and Talegaon. The toll fee varies depending on the vehicle and ranges from Rs. 320 to Rs. 2,165.
